Goldilocks
The “Goldilocks” concept, drawn from the well-known fairy tale “Goldilocks and the Three Bears,” is used in the “Breathing That Matters: Foundation” course to describe finding the “Just Right” target when practicing breathing techniques and adding or removing stressors in our life.
In the Foundation course, this concept is applied in two key areas:
- Unloading Position: When setting up for the Unloading position, you are encouraged to find the “sweet spot” for head and leg support – not too high, not too low, but “just right.” The goal is to allow your body to fully relax and unload, reducing physical, emotional, and chemical stress. (More about Unloading)
- Belly Breathing: Similarly, in Belly Breathing, the aim is to find that “just right” feeling with your breath – not too much effort, not too little. This means allowing your belly to expand naturally rather than forcefully pushing it out. (More about Belly Breathing)
The course emphasizes that finding this “Just Right” balance is a continuous learning process (Learn More about the Mastery Asymptote). There will be times when your breathing feels natural and effective, and other times when it might feel like you’re doing too much or too little.Â
Bert’s story further highlights the importance of this concept. His journey in improving his quality of life and function is linked to his commitment to consistently hitting his “Just Right” target. He famously stated that he “doesn’t miss” a day of practice, underscoring the dedication required to achieve and maintain this optimal balance. Learn More about Bert here.
